Privacy Policy

Kaku (the “App”) is a Shikaku puzzle game for iOS developed by Gonzalo Fuentes (“we”, “us”). We care about your privacy and built the App to collect as little data as possible. This policy explains what is and isn’t collected.

The short version

There are no ads, we don’t sell your data, and we don’t track you across other apps or websites. Your game data is yours. If you play Versus matches with friends, the match and its chat live on our servers so they can work — that’s the only content of yours we ever store.

Data stored on your device

Your puzzle progress, settings, statistics and streaks are stored locally on your device. If you have iCloud enabled, some of this data (such as your daily results) is synced across your devices through Apple’s iCloud / CloudKit, tied to your Apple ID. This data is handled by Apple under your iCloud account and is not visible to us in an identifiable form.

Game Center

If you sign in to Game Center, your completion times, solved counts, streaks and achievements are submitted to Apple’s Game Center to power the leaderboards and achievements. This is governed by your Game Center settings and Apple’s privacy policy. You can disable Game Center at any time in iOS Settings.

Versus matches & chat

If you play a Versus match, the match itself (who is playing, round results and reactions) is stored in Google Firebase so everyone in the match sees the same game. Messages you send in the match chat are stored on our own server, encrypted at rest (AES-256), and delivered to the other players in the match. Your identity in both is your verified Game Center player id — we don’t use your name or email.

Because the chat is user-generated content, it is moderated: an automatic filter runs on every message, players can report or block each other in the app, and reported or suspicious messages may be reviewed by us to enforce the rules. To request deletion of your chat messages, contact us at the address below.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can deliver match updates, chat messages and reminders you asked for. You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.

Anonymous analytics

To understand how the App is used and to improve it, we collect a small number of anonymous, aggregated usage events using PostHog (hosted in the EU). Examples include when a game is started or completed and which difficulty was chosen. These events are not used to identify you and do not include your name, email, contacts, location or any sensitive information.

Purchases

Kaku offers a one-time “Kaku Pro” in-app purchase. Payments are processed entirely by Apple. We use RevenueCat to manage entitlements (whether you own Pro). We never receive or store your payment details, such as card numbers.

Ad attribution

We advertise Kaku on platforms like Instagram. To measure whether those ads work, the App includes the Meta SDK, which reports installs and launches using Apple’s SKAdNetwork — an aggregated, anonymous attribution system. We never show ads inside the App, never ask for the App Tracking permission, and never access your advertising identifier (IDFA). When a purchase happens, the fact that it happened and its amount (never your identity or payment details) may be shared with Meta through RevenueCat to measure ad campaigns.

Crash reporting

If the App crashes, a technical crash report (device model, iOS version, and what the code was doing) is sent to Sentry so we can fix the bug. Crash reports don’t include your name, email or game content.

Children

Kaku is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices & data deletion

  • Deleting the App removes all data stored locally on your device.
  • You can manage or delete iCloud data from iOS Settings → your Apple ID.
  • You can disable Game Center in iOS Settings.
  • To request deletion of any analytics data associated with your device, or of your Versus chat messages, contact us at the address below.
  • You can turn off notifications at any time in iOS Settings.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
